Pick-up Kit for Plastic Bogies

The kit consists of four pick-ups etched in 0.13mm phosphor bronze. The kit is supplied with four small cross-slot self tapping screws and two 300mm lengths of flexible insulated wire. The wire is the same as that used for DCC decoders and is supplied in the correct red and black colours to suit the NMRA DCC wire colour scheme.

The pickups are primarily intened to be attached to the plastic bogies in the Tri-ang Blue Pullman power car, however they will suit almost any bogie that has a plastic frame. The length is sufficient to work with wheelbases up to around 60mm. The use of a flat etched pick-up is superior to the use of wire, giving more surface contact area and less chance of twisting out of position. The springy phosphor bronze material also sits lightly on the rear surface of the wheels to reduce drag.

The following photo shows that fitting is very simple. Just drill a 1.0mm hole in the bogie floor and screw the pickup in place with the supplied screws. Two solder tags are provided on each pick-up for attachment of the wires.

Of course the wheels on some models, such as the Blue Pullman, are plastic. Consequently, the wheels need to be replaced for the pick-ups to work.
